Activity Based Science Learning (ABSL) |

Activities, experiments, and project work are integral components of science education. Hemant Lagvankar has made dedicated efforts through numerous workshops and presentations to instill the importance of these tools among teachers. He has worked tirelessly to transform the way science is taught in schools. To date, he has conducted over 750 teacher training workshops focused on Activity-Based Science Learning, benefiting more than 25,000 teachers. The Regional Academic Authority, Mumbai, under the State Government of Maharashtra, along with several non-governmental organizations working in the field of science education—such as Science Teachers' Associations, Pratham, Kawish, Observer Research Foundation, and Rayat Shikshan Sanstha—took the initiative to organize such workshops for science teachers. During the academic years 2018–19 and 2019–20, District Science Teachers' Associations, along with local education authorities of the State Government, organized one-day teacher training workshops led by Mr. Hemant Lagvankar. A total of 40 workshops were conducted across various locations in the districts of Pune, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Solapur, Dharashiv (formerly Osmanabad), Thane, Hingoli, Akola, Nanded, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Yavatmal, and Amravati in Maharashtra. These workshops focused primarily on pedagogy, with Mr. Lagvankar demonstrating effective teaching techniques by delivering a complete lesson from the school textbook. More than 3,850 science teachers benefited from these training sessions.

Demonstrative Workshops during Science Exhibitions
In the academic year 2018–19, Hemant Lagvankar conducted seven workshops for science teachers during taluka- and district-level science exhibitions. These workshops were held in the districts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Beed in Maharashtra. Aimed primarily at upper primary (higher primary) teachers, the sessions demonstrated how a single topic progresses and deepens across different grade levels, using a variety of activities and experiments. Approximately 450 teachers benefited from these workshops. |

Workshops for Secondary Science Teachers in Palghar District of Maharashtra
In September 2019, the Regional Academic Authority, Mumbai, Department of Education, Government of Maharashtra, organized special training workshops for secondary science teachers (Grades 9 and 10) in the Palghar district.
More than 400 secondary science teachers from Palghar district benefited from these workshops, which were held at Dahanu, Vikramgad, Palghar, and Vasai. The participating teachers expressed that they had never experienced such a unique form of training before and felt that it would be highly beneficial for their actual classroom teaching.
These workshops covered several key aspects, including the constructive approach to knowledge, the role of the science teacher as a 'facilitator', classroom activities that enhance learning, and effective methods for assessing students' understanding.

Workshops for Higher Primary Teachers in Raigad District of Maharashtra
In December 2019, the Regional Academic Authority, Mumbai, Department of Education, Government of Maharashtra, organized special training workshops for teachers teaching at the upper primary level (Grades 6 to 8) in the Raigad district of Maharashtra state.
More than 600 teachers from all tahasils of Raigad district benefited from these workshops held at Mahad, Mhasala, Khalapur, Kalamboli and Poynad. Teachers participated in these workshops expressed that they they had never experienced such a unique form of training before and felt that it would be highly beneficial for their actual classroom teaching.
These workshops covered several key aspects, including the constructive approach to knowledge, the role of the science teacher as a 'facilitator', classroom activities that enhance learning, and effective methods for assessing students' understanding.
